Carrying a complaint rather than a request
What it is
You have been holding this for the better part of a year as a complaint, because a complaint is safe and never has to be refused, where a request would need an answer.
How it affects your life
It shows up as the counting, the arithmetic at red lights, the appointment you have not booked. All of it can be carried indefinitely without anyone being asked for anything. Asked directly what it would take, you had nothing ready, and that frightened you more than the question did.
