PATTERN
Swapping the real sentence for a smaller one

What it is
You open your mouth with the real sentence loaded and swap it on the way through your teeth for a smaller one that will not require anything of either of you.
How it affects your life
It has happened three times this spring. You get as far as something like "I think I need to know what the actual plan is", he answers about the roof, and you say yeah, the roof. The vagueness is doing work. You say something with a door in it rather than "can we talk about something", he takes the door, and you are left annoyed with him for taking a door you built, held open and pointed at.
