PATTERN
Needing permission for time that arrives free

What it is
When unexpected empty time lands and nobody has given you permission to use it, you reach for the phone, which makes the hours pass without requiring you to decide anything.
How it affects your life
Three cancellations gave you three hours, and the things you have been meaning to do, notes, the reading since March, taking the dog somewhere new, all stayed undone while you scrolled until the four o'clock.
Underneath it is the sense that going home would be getting away with something, and that the rest of the afternoon would then have to be spent earning it.
