A phone glowing face up on a duvet at night

Eight months of this, and nothing to show for it.

You have been working things out with ChatGPT at midnight and it helps, and then it is gone into a sidebar. Bring the whole history over and watch it turn into something that actually goes somewhere.

First

We are not going to tell you to stop

It works for you. You already know that, you did not arrive here needing convincing, and nothing on this page is going to suggest you should have been doing something else.

It is not therapy and it is not a replacement for it. That is worth saying once as a fact rather than as a warning, and then we can get on with it.

The problem

Where did August go?

Months of real conversation, spread across dozens of threads, most of them called Untitled or Help with a situation.

You worked something out in September. You know you did. Finding it means scrolling, and after twenty minutes you give up and work it out again, slightly worse, at one in the morning.

It starts from nothing each time, too. You re-explain who your mother is. The thing you understood in August is not there in October unless you remember to bring it.

Bring all of it

Export the lot and put it here

ChatGPT and Claude both let you export everything. Drop the file in.

You see it all before it lands, you can drop anything you do not want, and nothing reaches your journal until you press the button. Imported conversations stay marked as imported wherever they appear.

An open box of loose papers and notebooks

What it builds

It turns into something you can look at

A map, made out of what you already said. The question you have circled since spring. The people who keep appearing. The thing you do that you named once in September and never connected to anything else.

Every card carries your own sentences, dated, linked back to the night you typed them. Including the ones you spent twenty minutes failing to find.

The honest version

It does not only agree with you

You have had the thought. A thing that is endlessly patient and never tired of you is also a thing with no reason to push back, and a very good mirror that flatters is worth less than it feels like at the time.

What this does differently is specific rather than a promise. The reflection at the end of an entry names what you stepped around. A card can say something about you that you would not have said about yourself, and then show you the four sentences of your own that put it there, so you can disagree with it properly.

Yours

It can stay on your machine

  • Point it at a model running on your own computer, and nothing you write leaves it.
  • Or bring your own API key and use the model you already pay for.
  • Delete any entry, or everything, whenever you want.
  • Export all of it, whenever you want.
  • Never used to train anything.
  • Nothing is shared with anybody unless you send it.

If you want both

This is not instead of therapy either

Plenty of people doing this are also on a waiting list, or cannot afford a session at city prices, or have tried and bounced off it. All of those are fine and none of them are this page's business.

If you do end up seeing somebody, there is a page about that, and you can send them one entry or a short account of your week without giving them anything else.

Eight months of this is worth more than a sidebar.

You already did the reflecting. This is the part where it goes somewhere.
